What our reviews are based on
Our reviews are research based. We compare published manufacturer specifications, retailer listings, documented material properties, warranty terms, and the pattern of feedback that buyers leave across major retailers.
We want to be direct about what that means: we do not run a physical laboratory, and we do not claim to have cooked with every product we write about. Where a claim comes from a manufacturer, we attribute it to the manufacturer. Where it comes from aggregated buyer feedback, we say so. We would rather give you a sourced comparison than an unverifiable story about a kitchen test.
KCS Score
Every product we rank receives a KCS Score out of 100. The score is the weighted sum of six criteria:
| Criterion | Weight | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Cooking performance | 25% | Material construction, base thickness and cladding, heat distribution characteristics, responsiveness on the cooktop types the set supports |
| Durability | 20% | Coating type and expected wear, handle attachment, oven and broiler limits, warranty length and what it actually covers |
| Set composition | 15% | Whether the included pieces cover normal cooking, or whether the piece count is inflated by lids and utensils |
| Ease of use and cleaning | 15% | Weight, handle comfort, lid fit, dishwasher compatibility, whether cleaning requires specific care |
| Compatibility | 15% | Induction, glass top, gas and electric support, oven safe temperature, utensil restrictions |
| Value for the price | 10% | What the set offers relative to alternatives in the same price range |
Scores are not generated automatically and are not random. Every product in a given article is assessed against the same six criteria so that the comparison within an article is consistent.
How we select products for a roundup
- We define the reader need the article addresses, for example a first cookware set for an induction cooktop under a set budget.
- We build a candidate list from products that are currently sold and that fit the stated need.
- We exclude products with unclear specifications, no warranty information, or a pattern of unresolved buyer complaints about safety or basic function.
- We compare the remaining candidates against the criteria above and rank them.
- We state who each pick suits and who should look elsewhere.
What we will not do
- We do not invent measurements, laboratory results, or awards.
- We do not claim to have used a product when we have not.
- We do not let commission rates influence rankings. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
- We do not publish articles that only restate manufacturer marketing copy.
Corrections and updates
Every article shows a publication date and, where relevant, a last updated date. If a product changes generation or a specification we cited turns out to be wrong, we correct the article. If you spot an error, tell us through the Contact page and cite the source you are working from.
